We do a lot of Asian-inspired cooking in our household, so when I needed to throw together a marinade using what I had on hand, this came together pretty easily. The first night that I used it, we marinated pork chops, but it is such a simple combination of flavors that would go well with any cut of meat — beef, chicken, pork.
As written, this recipe will create enough marinade for about 2 lbs. of meat, but it can also be scaled up or down as needed.
Soy Garlic Marinade
This is an Asian-inspired marinade that can be used with any cut of meat, but is especially good with pork. It comes together quick and easy, using ingredients that can commonly be found at most grocery stores these days.
Method
- Combine the marinade ingredients in a small mixing bowl.
- Place your meat into a gallon-size freezer bag or sealable container, then pour the marinade over the top.
- Make sure the meat gets coated on all sides by the marinade and seal your container tightly.
- Put the sealed container in your refrigerator and let the meat marinate for no less than 2 hours.
Marinating overnight is best, to ensure good flavor penetration. Don't let the meat marinate longer than 2 or 3 days, however, or the texture will suffer.
Notes
For a gluten free alternative to soy sauce, look for tamari. It is a Japanese ingredient, derived from the miso-making process, and is gluten free.
